Chilean wine can be divided into before and after Marcelo Retamal. For more than 20 years at the helm of De Martino, this revolutionary winemaker - one of the 30 most influential in the world according to Decanter in England - forever transformed the wines and the image of his country, discovering its diversity and its best terroirs. The personal project RETA was created in 2019, and brings 3 wines that synthesize all the decades of insane work vinifying grapes from hundreds and hundreds of plots from every corner of Chile. The 3 exceptional “grand crus” discovered by Marcelo during his brilliant career.

Wine:
The single-vineyard Quebrada Chalinga is located in northern Chile, in Limarí, near the isolated Bosque Fray Jorge National Park (UNESCO heritage). It was also planted with free-standing trees. Particularly cold microclimate, directly influenced by the Humboldt current coming from the ocean that is only 12 km away. Geologically speaking, this vineyard grows in soils that originate from the granite rock of the Coastal Batholith. However, these soils are also heavily mixed with limestone (calcium carbonate), which comes from a terrace of sedimentary limestone rock located on the seabed that enters the continent, due to tectonic movements and subduction of the oceanic plate (Nazca Plate) into the continental plate (South American Plate).

Fermentation of 50% whole bunches with a long, very delicate infusion of 30 days. No sulfites are used during winemaking. Aged for 16 months in 228-liter barrels of third, fourth and fifth use.
