Jérôme Bretaudeau Muscadet Gaia 2023 is a remarkable expression of modern Muscadet, crafted by one of the Loire Valley's most celebrated and influential winemakers. Produced by Jérôme Bretaudeau at Domaine de Bellevue, this wine showcases the extraordinary potential of Melon de Bourgogne when grown on exceptional terroirs and vinified with patience, precision and minimal intervention.
Awarded Winemaker of the Year 2025 by La Revue du Vin de France, Bretaudeau has become a benchmark for contemporary Loire wines, renowned for his biodynamic farming, spontaneous fermentations and ability to reveal the purest expression of place. His work has played a significant role in redefining the image of Muscadet, elevating it from a simple seafood wine to one of France's most compelling sources of terroir-driven white wines.
Gaia 2023 originates from old vines planted in the 1960s on a rare volcanic gabbro terroir. Located on gently sloping sites with sandy and silty topsoils over volcanic bedrock, these vineyards produce wines that combine mineral tension, texture and remarkable saline energy.
Certified organic since 2012 and biodynamic under Biodyvin certification since 2020, the vineyards are farmed with meticulous attention to soil health and biodiversity. Fermentation occurs naturally with indigenous yeasts, followed by an extended ageing period of 18 to 24 months in concrete eggs, allowing the wine to gain complexity and texture while preserving freshness and purity. Sulphur is added only at bottling.
The aromatic profile is both refined and expressive, revealing layers of citrus fruit, green apple, white flowers and dried herbs, complemented by a subtle smoky character that reflects the volcanic nature of the gabbro soils. On the palate, the wine is vibrant, concentrated and intensely saline, combining a generous texture with razor-sharp acidity and an almost electric mineral finish.
Far removed from the traditional perception of Muscadet, Gaia 2023 stands among the finest Atlantic white wines of France, offering exceptional depth, precision and ageing potential.
Food Pairing
A perfect companion to oysters, fresh shellfish, grilled fish, sushi, sashimi, Atlantic-inspired vegetable cuisine and fresh goat cheeses. Its salinity and mineral structure make it particularly compelling with raw seafood and refined coastal gastronomy.
