Julien Sunier Fleurie 2023
Originally from Burgundy, where he worked from Beaune to Nuits-Saint-Georges, Julien Sunier built strong ties with the legendary Christophe Roumier before broadening his horizons in California and New Zealand. Back in France, he founded his small domaine in 2008, today one of the most respected names in Beaujolais. Farming old vines on the highest hills of Morgon, Fleurie and Régnié, he practices organic viticulture with low intervention winemaking. His wines stand out for elegance and purity, Beaujolais with the soul of Chambolle.
Description
From the "Niagara" plot, at around 500 metres altitude, this Fleurie comes from vines planted in the 1960s on poor, pure pink granite soils. This distinctive geology gives the wine minerality and tension, balanced by the fruit purity of Gamay.
Fermented with indigenous yeasts and made with great respect for the fruit, it ages up to 11 months in used French oak barrels (3 to 9 years old). The result is a high altitude Fleurie, with floral perfume, vibrant fruit and very fine tannins, an elegant and authentic take on this celebrated Beaujolais cru.
