L'Arco Passito Bianco Veneto IGT 2016 is one of the rarest and most personal wines produced by Luca Fedrigo, founder of L'Arco and one of the most respected artisans of the Valpolicella region. A former collaborator of the legendary Giuseppe Quintarelli for more than a decade, Fedrigo has built a reputation for crafting wines that combine traditional methods, meticulous vineyard work and an unwavering commitment to authenticity.
Produced in extremely limited quantities from just two rows of white vines planted by Luca's father in the 1960s, this extraordinary sweet wine originates in the heart of Valpolicella Classico, where morainic and gravel-rich soils provide both character and freshness.
For many years, this wine was made exclusively for family consumption and never released commercially. The 2016 vintage represents one of the first opportunities for wine lovers to experience this deeply personal interpretation of Veneto's historic passito tradition.
The wine is crafted using the ancient appassimento method, whereby the grapes are carefully dried for approximately 100 days after harvest. This natural dehydration process concentrates sugars, flavours and texture while preserving complexity and balance. Following drying, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented slowly in used 500-litre tonneaux with indigenous yeasts. The wine then remains in the same barrels for an extraordinary 48 months of ageing, developing remarkable depth and nuance.
The aromatic profile is intensely expressive and layered, revealing notes of dried figs, fruit preserves, toasted nuts, pecan, cinnamon and cardamom. Additional nuances of fine pastry, candied fruits and sweet spice emerge with aeration, creating exceptional complexity.
On the palate, L'Arco Passito Bianco 2016 is rich and textural yet remarkably balanced. Its concentration is offset by a surprising freshness that prevents any sense of heaviness, while the long, elegant finish unfolds with persistent flavours of dried fruits, nuts and spice.
Produced from a single barrel and limited to approximately 1,000 bottles, this is a truly rare Italian dessert wine, offering collectors and enthusiasts a unique opportunity to experience one of Veneto's most exclusive and authentic sweet wines.
