Pormenor Tinto 2021 Double Magnum is a remarkable expression of modern Douro winemaking, crafted by Pedro Coelho and the team at Pormenor Vinhos. Produced from old vineyards in Soutelo do Douro, planted on blue schist soils with traditional Douro varieties including Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela and Rufete, this wine captures a fresher, more precise and terroir-driven interpretation of the region.
Founded in 2013, Pormenor Vinhos has built its reputation on high-altitude vineyards, minimal intervention practices and a commitment to revealing the elegance and authenticity of the Douro. Rather than pursuing power and concentration, the project focuses on balance, freshness and transparency, creating wines that challenge conventional expectations of the region.
The 2021 vintage marks an important turning point in the evolution of Pormenor Tinto. Following fermentation in stainless steel with 100% whole clusters, the wine was aged in large 8,000-litre oak casks instead of the smaller barrels previously used. This significant change allowed for greater purity of fruit, enhanced freshness and a more integrated texture, with minimal influence from oak.
The outstanding 2021 growing season delivered slow and even ripening, resulting in a wine of exceptional harmony and balance. Aromas of black and blue fruits are layered with earthy nuances, crushed stone and subtle mineral notes. On the palate, it combines fine-grained tannins with vibrant freshness and remarkable depth, offering a refined structure that feels both elegant and complete.
Awarded 93 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, critic Luis Gutiérrez described it as "one of the great bargains from the Douro", praising its harmony, depth, freshness and extraordinary value. With only 6,654 bottles produced, this is a compelling example of contemporary Douro wine at its most authentic and expressive.
Presented in Magnum format, the wine offers additional ageing potential and is an ideal choice for collectors, fine wine enthusiasts and special occasions.
Food Pairing
An excellent match for roasted meats, game dishes, slow-cooked stews and traditional Portuguese cuisine. Its fine tannins and balanced acidity also pair beautifully with moderately rich dishes and long, slow cooking preparations.
