Cortinha Velha Alvarinho & Trajadura is a vibrant and terroir-driven white wine from Monção e Melgaço, the most prestigious sub-region of Portugal's Vinho Verde appellation for the production of Alvarinho. Crafted from a traditional blend of 70% Alvarinho and 30% Trajadura, this wine combines freshness, precision and elegance while showcasing the unique character of northern Portugal's granite soils and Atlantic climate.
Cortinha Velha is a family-owned project dedicated to expressing the authentic identity of the region's traditional grape varieties. Through careful vineyard management, manual harvesting and low-intervention winemaking, the estate produces wines that highlight purity, freshness and a strong sense of place.
The Alvarinho provides structure, aromatic intensity and mineral depth, while Trajadura contributes finesse, freshness and balance. The grapes are hand-harvested and transported in small 20kg crates before undergoing gentle processing. Following complete destemming and a short cold skin maceration, the fruit is softly pressed and fermented exclusively in stainless steel tanks.
The wine is then aged for 18 months on fine lees, with occasional bâtonnage to enhance texture and complexity while preserving its vibrant and mineral profile. A further three months of bottle ageing before release allows the wine to integrate harmoniously and develop additional depth.
On the nose, elegant citrus aromas are complemented by subtle notes of tropical fruit and wet stone. The palate is fresh, focused and energetic, supported by firm acidity and a distinctive granitic minerality that carries through to a long, persistent finish.
With only 5,900 bottles produced, this wine offers a refined and contemporary expression of Monção e Melgaço, combining freshness, texture and remarkable gastronomic versatility.
Food Pairing
Perfect with shellfish, crustaceans, grilled fish, sushi, sashimi, fresh salads, Mediterranean cuisine and fresh goat's cheese. Its bright acidity and mineral character make it an excellent companion to seafood-focused dishes.
