The Producer

Monte da Penha is a project located in the Portalegre sub-region of Alto Alentejo, an area renowned for its altitude and uncommon freshness within the region. The vineyards, planted between 400 and 600 metres on granitic and clay-limestone soils, benefit from a unique microclimate in the Serra de São Mamede.

This terroir allows for wines of greater elegance, freshness and balance, with a profile distinct from the more traditional, warmer Alentejo style, favouring precision, longevity and a clear expression of place.

The Wine

Monte da Penha Paixão Red 2013 is an Alentejo red that combines freshness, elegance and aromatic expression. Produced from Trincadeira, Aragonez, Touriga Nacional and Alicante Bouschet, it presents a classic, approachable and highly gastronomic profile.

In the glass, it shows a bright ruby colour. The nose stands out for its freshness and floral intensity, supported by lively red fruit aromas. On the palate, it offers good structure, balanced acidity and lively tannins, resulting in a harmonious, engaging and highly drinkable wine.

Vinification in stainless steel tanks with temperature control preserves the aromatic purity of the grapes, while partial ageing in French Allier oak barrels (30%) adds complexity and balance, with the remainder kept in stainless steel to retain freshness and definition.

With a limited production of 6,312 bottles, this wine represents an elegant and authentic expression of Portalegre, ideal for immediate enjoyment.

This fresh and balanced Alentejo red pairs well with a wide variety of dishes. Excellent with grilled meats, poultry, oven dishes and traditional Portuguese cuisine.
