PORMENOR TINTO 2021

PRODUCER

Pormenor Vinhos

Pormenor Vinhos was founded in the Douro in 2013 by Pedro Coelho, with a philosophy rooted in detail and the pure expression of terroir. Working with high-altitude vineyards and embracing a minimal intervention approach, the project is defined by wines of freshness, precision and restraint, challenging the traditionally warmer style of the region.

THE WINE

Pormenor Tinto 2021 marks a turning point in the producer’s approach to red wines, reflecting a clearer stylistic direction and a significant technical evolution in the cellar.

Sourced predominantly from vineyards planted on blue schist soils, where ripening can occur quickly, this wine seeks to balance the naturally solar character of the Douro with a fresher, more precise expression. The 2021 vintage offers a more refined interpretation of this balance, with better-controlled ripeness and improved structural integration.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, followed by an extended aging period that, in this vintage, transitions to large-format oak vats of around 8,000 liters. This shift is key to the wine’s style: less oak imprint, greater purity of fruit and a more integrated texture.

The result is a restrained yet deeply structured red. The nose reveals notes of dark and blue fruit, alongside mineral and earthy nuances. On the palate, it shows firm yet fine tannins, with a structure driven more by soil and origin than by extraction.

Balanced acidity and moderate alcohol contribute to a precise, food-oriented profile, where tension prevails over volume. This is a wine with grip, one that calls for food and benefits from time, expressing itself more through structure than aromatic exuberance.

A red that clearly defines the direction of the project: less intervention, more transparency and a more elegant, vertical interpretation of the Douro.

FOOD PAIRING

Ideal for structured dishes such as roasted meats, game or traditional Portuguese cuisine. Its firm yet refined tannins also pair well with dishes featuring moderate fat and slow cooking techniques.
