Pormenor Trilho em Pormenor Branco 2023 Magnum is one of the most precise and compelling white wines produced in the Douro today. Crafted by Pedro Coelho at Pormenor Vinhos, this highly limited cuvée originates from a nearly 100-year-old single vineyard planted at 550 to 600 metres of altitude in the Douro Superior. With a northern exposure and soils transitioning from schist to granite, the vineyard delivers exceptional freshness, tension and mineral precision.
Produced from a blend of Rabigato, Malvasia Fina and Arinto, Trilho em Pormenor Branco is only released in vintages considered truly exceptional by the producer. It represents Pormenor's most focused exploration of altitude, terroir and longevity, offering a distinctly restrained and age-worthy interpretation of Douro white wine.
Winemaking follows a meticulous low-intervention philosophy. Whole clusters are gently pressed, with only the free-run juice selected for fermentation in used 500-litre oak barrels using indigenous yeasts. The wine remains on its full lees for 12 months, undergoing complete malolactic fermentation before spending an additional six months in stainless steel to refine its structure and enhance precision.
Awarded 94 points by Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, critic Luis Gutiérrez praised its purity, freshness and remarkable energy, highlighting notes of tangerine peel, bright acidity and a mouthwatering finish. With only 83 Magnum bottles produced, it stands among the rarest and most sought-after white wines from the Douro Valley.
The aromatic profile is deliberately restrained and terroir-driven, revealing subtle layers of citrus, wild herbs and pronounced mineral character. Hints of ripe mandarin peel emerge with aeration, while the absence of overt oak influence allows the vineyard expression to remain at the forefront.
On the palate, the wine is taut, dry and intensely structured. Its vibrant acidity provides remarkable precision and persistence, creating a saline, mouthwatering sensation that carries through a long and serious finish. While approachable today, its architecture and balance suggest outstanding ageing potential over the coming decade and beyond.
Presented in Magnum format (1.5L), this wine offers even greater cellaring potential, making it an exceptional choice for collectors, fine wine enthusiasts and lovers of world-class mineral white wines.
Food Pairing
An outstanding companion to salt-baked fish, delicate shellfish, oysters, sashimi, sushi and refined seafood dishes. It also pairs beautifully with minimalist vegetable-based cuisine, where its tension, freshness and mineral character can fully shine.
